Among the notable gifts The Foundation has given:

The Simon C. Fireman Research Center at Beth Israel Hospital – Boston, Massachusetts
The researchers and faculty at this five-story, state-of-the-art facility, conduct broad-based studies in areas of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and osteoporosis, along with other conditions and diseases.

The Women’s Imaging Center at Quincy Medical Center – Quincy, Massachusetts
The finest of its kind in Massachusetts, this sophisticated center is equipped with the latest mammography and ultrasound technology which was dedicated in memory of Mr. Fireman’s daughter, Joan Fireman Berenson.

The Simon C. Fireman Center for the Treatment and Prevention of Mental Disorders – Boston, Massachusetts
In coordination with Harvard University and the Massachusetts Mental Health Institute, this facility leads the way in genetic and pharmacological research and the treatment of mental disorders. In honor of Mr. Fireman’s gift, Harvard University will bestow several research fellowships.

The Simon C. Fireman Home Safe Center for Children –
Lake Worth, Florida

A first-of-its-kind facility in Florida for the centralization of services for abused children, providing them with protection, shelter, and treatment.

The Simon C. Fireman Pavilion at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged – Boston, Massachusetts
A leader in the residential care and treatment of seniors, this 725-bed research and training facility is devoted to the care of the elderly. Hebrew SeniorLife is dedicated to raising the standard of care for senior citizens through innovation and leadership.

The Simon C. Fireman Radiological & Diagnostic Center at Quincy Medical Center – Quincy, Massachusetts
The Foundation has provided the lead gift for the expansion and creation of this state-of-the-art facility.

Simon C. Fireman House – Randolph, Massachusetts
An assisted living facility closely associated with the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center for Aged.

Simon C. Fireman Patient Center at Shaare Zedek Medical Center – Jerusalem, Israel
This is the largest hospital in Jerusalem and provides care to all, regardless of race or religion. A generous contribution is also made to the Jerusalem Tennis Center, located in the midst of severe poverty, which enables disadvantaged youth to become productive members of society.

Ongoing Support and Funding

In addition to the support for building and capital campaigns, The Foundation supports the operations and needs of the following health services and disease research organizations:

The American Cancer Society – A worldwide organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through education and prevention. Mr. Fireman has been recognized on numerous occasions for his funding of special programs and annual pledge-drive events. He is an ACS Ambassador of Hope.

The American Heart Association – A national voluntary health agency dedicated to building awareness of America’s fastest-growing health issue, coronary heart disease. This organization aims to teach people to lead healthier lives, free of heart disease and stroke.

The American Lung Association – The oldest voluntary health organization in the United States established in 1904 to fight tuberculosis, and today fights lung disease of all forms, including asthma, emphysema, and lung cancer.

The American Red Cross – An organization dedicated to providing assistance to those in need. Through the local chapter, funds have been raised for lifesaving programs and services, including CPR, first aid, water safety, and disaster preparation. Mr. Fireman has served as chairman for two International Red Cross Balls. He has also contributed significantly to many campaigns and has been responsible for facilitating many additional contributions from other donors.

Bascom Palmer Eye Clinic and Hospital – As the No. 1-rated eye hospital in the United States, Bascom Palmer is an internationally respected organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of eyesight and eye health. The Foundation established the Simon C. Fireman Endowment that has contributed greatly to understanding and treating eye disease.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation – A nonprofit, donor-supported organization devoted to finding the means to control and cure cystic fibrosis, and to improve the quality of life of those with the disease. Mr. Fireman has been recognized as an exceptional donor in the President’s Circle and the Doris F. Tulcin Major Giving Society.

Easter Seals of South Florida – A nonprofit, community-based health agency dedicated to helping children and adults attain greater independence. In 2007, Mr. Fireman served as the chairman of their main fundraising event, the Jelly Bean Ball, increasing the recognition and participation for this important community agency.

Firefighters of Palm Beach County – The Foundation was involved with the start of an annual event to raise money for scholarships for the children of firefighters and paramedics in Palm Beach County, Florida.

The Friends of AKIM – AKIM is the largest provider of services for people with intellectual disabilities in Israel. Their professional staff provides comprehensive care through specific, tailor-made programs for infants, children, adults, and senior citizens. Mr. Fireman has supported the important work of AKIM for many years.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research in the world. Mr. Fireman has been recognized as a major supporter for many years.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – Mr. Fireman has served as Grand Benefactor to the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life for patients and their families.

Simon C. Fireman Scholar in Cardiovascular Medicine at Boston’s Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School – This endowment was established to ensure in perpetuity the appointment of a distinguished cardiac physician/scientist dedicated to teaching and ongoing research in the treatment of cardiac disease at these fine institutions.

On a smaller scale, The Foundation has been a supporter of the performing arts and cultural events in South Florida, including:

Ballet Florida (in Palm Beach) – A small company of professional dancers dedicated to producing new ballet works of the highest quality and creativity. Mr. Fireman has served on the board and provided business guidance and financial support.

The Florida Philharmonic – This organization was South Florida’s premier symphony orchestra. Until its closure, it earned high praise for its performances and educational programs, and also won one of the most prestigious prizes in the classical music recording industry.

Miami City Ballet – A nationally and internationally known troupe of dancers that is dedicated to performance and teaching the art of ballet. The company’s education program is experienced by thousands of young people annually.

WXEL – This award-winning organization has a long-standing tradition of providing quality public radio and television programming to the South Florida region. Their areas of emphasis include educational and personal development, culture, community news, the arts, and entertainment. Mr. Fireman continues as a supporter to the Garnet Society, a distinguished group of supporters to WXEL.
